The Jacksonville
Symphony Chorus, now in its 22nd year, features some of the First Coast area’s
finest voices. Membership is made up of volunteers who come from all walks of
life, sharing a spirit that can only come from singing choral music. The
steadily growing roster also includes many professional musicians and skilled
amateur performers.
Throughout its
history, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Chorus has been a part of many
landmark JSO occasions, including a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony
for the Jacoby Symphony Hall inaugural concert. This past season, the chorus
participated with the orchestra in its commercial recording. The work
selected for this historical recording was Orff's Carmina Burana. This
season includes Mendelssohn's Elijah, Haydn's Mass in D Minor
"Lord Nelson Mass," Mahler's Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection" and
Handel’s Messiah. The chorus will also appear in the Symphony’s opera
production of Rossini's Barber of Seville. In a lighter vein, the
chorus will perform in the Holiday Pops concert, always a favorite.
